Our latest EcoFocus® survey reveals a striking consensus on environmental education

A recent EcoFocus® survey reveals that 71% of respondents agree schools should have a formal curriculum addressing environmental topics. Of this group, 31% strongly agree, indicating deep and passionate support for embedding environmental education in school programs. By contrast, 10% disagree, and only 3% strongly disagree, demonstrating minimal opposition to this idea. These numbers reflect an overwhelming consensus in favor of teaching environmental issues in a more structured and formal way during a child’s education.

This strong majority suggests that environmental education is no longer a fringe concern; it is steadily becoming a broadly shared priority. With nearly one-third of participants expressing strong conviction, it’s clear people aren’t merely indifferent—they expect schools to take action. The small share who disagree or strongly disagree underscores how unusual it would be for institutions to ignore this tide of preference.

What this means for decision-makers in education and policy: there is fertile ground for implementing or expanding formal environmental curricula, with likely public support. For businesses and organizations, aligning with this trend—through partnerships with schools, content development, or advocacy—may also create goodwill and trust. As awareness of environmental issues continues to grow, education emerges as a key foundation for future behavior, values, and civic engagement.
